What are Reconditioned Pallets?
A reconditioned pallet is simply a broken or damaged wooden pallet that has been repaired. These pallets are already in the pallet network, and therefore, have been used previously.
Once repaired these pallets can be resold, keeping them in the pallet network for many years to come, as opposed to ending up in landfill.
There are many ways in which a pallet might need repairing, for example:
- Replacing missing or damaged board and nails
- Strengthening weak materials
- Strengthening loose materials
- Straightening twisted pallets
- Ensuring there are no materials protruding
- Certifying that the pallet is safe for reuse
The ability for wooden pallets to be easily reconditioned several times throughout their life makes them a favourable option for many reasons.
What are the Benefits of Reconditioned Pallets?
Amongst other benefits, reconditioned pallets offer huge price savings for customers that do not require a new pallet. These pallets can vary in size, meeting customer needs at a very attractive price.
Reconditioned, recycled or remanufactured are other names given to these types of pallets, but all varieties are a cost-effective alternative to new wooden pallets.
Save money with reconditioned pallets
Generally, a pallet that has been reconditioned will come at a lower cost than pallets that purchased brand new. These pallets are the ideal choice for customers looking to minimise outgoing costs on material handling and inventory, but are still looking for maximum quality.
From a business perspective, it also costs much less to repair a wooden pallet than to constantly produce new ones, which is why we are able to offer them at a lower price.
Reconditioned pallets save the environment
Perhaps the most obvious benefit, these types of pallets are reducing the need for new timber, and given the ongoing climate crisis, it is now more important than ever to consider ways of reducing our impact on the environment.
By choosing reconditioned pallets, you’re not only saving trees which would have been cut down and used for new pallets, but you are also saving on the energy generated to build the pallet. As a business, choosing reconditioned pallets prevents them from otherwise ending up in an overloaded landfill, a major help to the environment!
Do they meet ISPM15 requirements?
In order for international shipping, all wooden pallets must meet ISPM15 regulations which prevent the spread of harmful diseases and pests to foreign ecosystems. For pallets that are repaired and reused, as long as they are re-treated with the required heat treatment and re-marked with the ISPM15 stamp, are suitable for export.
This is something we are able to offer at PR Pallets, and we were one of the first companies in the UK to start manufacturing heat-treated pallets. We boast of over 10 years of experience in heat treating pallets from our Essex based facilities. We have the international certification necessary to heat treat any pallet or timber that you need to export. We will provide documentary evidence (ISPM15 Certificate) with any export order.

We understand that eventually, all pallets will run their course. When this time comes, there are a number of different ways they can be recycled.
Sustainability is vital to our business values, which is why we operate a zero-waste policy and have efficient recycling practices in place which ensures that all parts of used pallets are used again in some way. In instances where a pallet is no longer repairable, we breakdown the components and use what we can as the material for woodchip.
